Common questions
Will I be auto-enrolled?
You will be enrolled in My Future Fund if you are aged 23 to 60, earning more than €20,000 a year, and not already in a workplace pension scheme that meets the qualifying standard. Enrolment is automatic; no action needed to join.
What are the starting contribution rates?
Phased ramp-up over the first decade. Year 1: 1.5 percent employee + 1.5 percent employer + 0.5 percent state top-up. Rates rise every three years to reach 6 percent + 6 percent + 2 percent in year 10. The state top-up is a tax credit on your contribution, similar to (but not identical to) the relief you would get on a PRSA.
Can I opt out?
You can opt out at month 7 or month 8 after enrolment, and again at later windows. If you opt out before contributing, the small amount paid in is refunded. After contributing for several years, opting out stops contributions but you keep what is in the pot.
How does it interact with my existing pension?
If you are in an existing qualifying workplace pension, you are not auto-enrolled; you keep your current scheme. If your existing scheme is below the qualifying standard (rare), you may be moved into auto-enrolment instead.
