PayslipIQ vs the alternatives — honest comparisons

The UK already has good tax tools, and pretending otherwise would insult your intelligence. Each page below compares PayslipIQ with one of them: what the other tool does better, what we do better, and when to use which. The one-line summaries here are written to be fair enough that the competitor could read them without objecting.

How these comparisons are written

Every page follows the same rules: at least two genuine competitor strengths, stated plainly; no invented features on either side; claims checked against the competitor’s live site; and a review date so you can judge how fresh the facts are. PayslipIQ’s own position is simple — a free upload-to-verdict payslip check covering tax code, National Insurance, pension and student loan, with no signup, the image not stored, and a £19 Pro Report planned at launch (currently waitlist only).

All comparisons

  • PayslipIQ vs Listentotaxman

One of the longest-running UK take-home calculators — fast, free and widely cited. The right tool for modelling a typed salary; PayslipIQ picks up where the model meets the real payslip.

  • PayslipIQ vs Martin Lewis tax calculator (MoneySavingExpert)

The best-known consumer tax tools in the UK, backed by two decades of trusted money journalism. Unbeatable for headline numbers and written guidance; not designed to read a payslip line by line.

  • PayslipIQ vs The Salary Calculator

The most configurable typed calculator we have reviewed — pension types, bonus, two overtime rates, two-jobs and pro-rata variants. Ideal for what-if modelling; PayslipIQ audits the document instead.

  • PayslipIQ vs GOV.UK tax checker (HMRC)

The official HMRC estimator — the authority every other tool, including ours, works from. It models what your pay should be; PayslipIQ checks whether a specific payslip matches those rules.

  • PayslipIQ vs Payslip Checker (payslipchecker.uk)

The closest tool to ours in purpose, with a genuinely private browser-only design — your figures are never uploaded. You type; we read the uploaded slip and give a per-line verdict. Different trade-offs.

Or skip the reading and check a payslip

The fastest way to see the difference is to run the check itself: upload a payslip photo or PDF and get a line-by-line verdict on the tax code, NI, pension and student loan lines. Free, no signup, image not stored.
