How do I get an emergency tax refund?
If you are still in the same job, HMRC normally refunds emergency tax automatically through your next payslip once they have full starter data. If the tax year has ended, you can claim through your HMRC personal tax account or by completing a P800 reconciliation if HMRC sends one.

Always verify your payslip, tax code, deductions and take-home pay with your employer's payroll department, HMRC, your pension provider, a qualified accountant, tax adviser or another appropriately qualified professional.
You do not need a refund company. The HMRC personal tax account at gov.uk is the official, free route.
If you have left the job and do not have a P45, ask the previous employer to send one. Without a P45, HMRC may take longer to issue a corrected code at your next employer.
If your employer has under-deducted tax due to an incorrect code, you may have to repay that amount in future pay periods. The PayslipIQ Pro Report can produce a 12-month projection that shows how a code change ripples through the rest of the tax year.
