PAYE is income tax. The first 44,000 euro of gross income is taxed at the 20 percent standard rate. Anything above is taxed at 40 percent. Tax credits reduce the calculated tax bill but cannot create a refund larger than the tax due.
USC is the Universal Social Charge. It is charged on gross income using the 2026 bands of 0.5 percent up to 12,012 euro, 2 percent up to 27,382 euro, 4 percent up to 70,044 euro, and 8 percent above. Income under 13,000 euro is exempt.
PRSI Class A1 employee contribution is 4.2 percent of weekly earnings until 30 September 2026, rising to 4.35 percent from 1 October 2026. Workers earning between 352 and 424 euro a week receive the PRSI Credit which tapers from 12 euro a week to zero.
Take-home pay is gross minus PAYE minus USC minus PRSI. Pension contributions, BIK adjustments, salary sacrifice and other voluntary deductions can reduce the figure further. Educational guidance only, always confirm the actual payslip with your employer payroll team.
